Deschutes River Caddis Fly Hatches
Trout fishing on the Lower Deschutes has been good! We just finished a three day trip yesterday (Wednesday) and had pretty good fishing. There were some dry fly opportunities, but most of the larger trout we caught this trip were taking caddis emergers a few feet below the surface. Silvey's primetime pupae (olive, 16) was the most productive fly.
A week before this trip we experienced some of the best caddis fly hatches and fishing any of us can remember. For about a week there was an absolute blizzard caddis hatch each day, all day. Several trout were rising in nearly every shady spot on the river! The average size of the fish seemed larger than normal too.
