Fishing the Caddis Fly Hatch on Oregon's Deschutes River

Each season on Oregon's Lower Deschutes River many hatches create seemingly endless dry fly opportunity.  The salmonfly and golden stonefly hatches are undeniably the most popular and the spring and fall mayfly hatches are also noteworthy.  But if one hatch had to represent the Lower Deschutes it would certainly be caddis flies - the other white meat.

Each summer keen anglers look forward to blizzard hatches of caddis that provide outstanding dry fly fishing all day long.  Warm evenings during the caddis hatch can only be described as magical and as daylight fades into darkness threading your tippet through a new fly becomes impossible because either you can't see any more or your hands are trembling from the 18 inch redside that just snapped you off.  There is nothing quite like a good day of caddis fly fishing on the Deschutes.
