Hatch Guide to the Lower Deschutes River

The Lower Deschutes River sustains the largest biomass of aquatic insects of any river in Oregon, with diverse and complex hatches spanning most of the year.  Most days an ambitious angler can find some sort of surface feeding activity.  The Deschutes has dry fly fishing for everyone, from pocket water searching with attractor patterns to match the hatch spring creek like fishing.

We focus on fishing during hatches that provide the most consistent dry fly fishing during the peak of the season, from March through November.  This is a simplified hatch guide that highlights what we consider to be the most important and relevant hatches one will encounter on the Lower Deschutes.
